WHOOVER 2 was not supplied with standardized antennas. Below are recommendations for antenna selection.
The device requires two omnidirectional antennas:
- 5.8 Antenna — for the 4830–6030 MHz range
- 1.2 Antenna — for the 820–1820 MHz range
No antenna exists that offers a good radiation pattern, decent gain and SWR, a compact form factor, and coverage of the wide frequency bands supported by Whoover receivers.
On the other hand, the enemy’s practice of using video transmitters and the UAV piloting style creates a favorable situation for video signals to be intercepted even with satisfactory antennas. Of course, such antennas have disadvantages: sometimes an inconvenient form factor, imperfect radiation pattern, relatively weak signal amplification, etc. But there are also advantages: they are compact, affordable, and they work!
Depending on the direction, statistics of enemy UAV frequencies, and the overall situation, you can select antennas that can significantly improve your signal reception quality and range. Pay attention to the antenna connector — it must be SMA male.
SMA male antenna connector — has a characteristic copper pin inside.
It is not recommended to use antenna extension cables (pigtails) longer than 30 cm — this may degrade device performance.
